As reported last week, the National Championship Series took place in Virginia Beach, VA last week and as part of that, the USASA National Cups came to a prestigious end after the semi-final and final matches. Three clubs were crowned champions. They are the top three amateur clubs in the nation:

The Olympic Club (Region IV)
GERHARD MENGEL OVER-30 CUP CHAMPION
(7:0 WIN OVER UNITED SERBS OF REGION II)

West Chester United SC (Region I)
WERNER FRICKER OPEN CUP CHAMPION
(2:1 WIN OVER RWB ADRIA OF REGION II)

Quinto Elemento (Region II)
US AMATEUR CUP CHAMPION
(3:1 WIN OVER MARYLAND BAYS OF REGION I)

These cups culminated in a high class, organized championship in Sportsplex Stadium in Virginia Beach, but we cannot forget that these competitions are yearlong. The clubs that enter begin competition play as early as the fall prior to the championships held in the summer. These clubs are serious about soccer. They care about competition and playing at a level higher than recreation, and the fact is that there are hundreds across the United States that do. That is why the National Cups exist.
